Mid-Summer Wellness: Staying Balanced, Energized & Inspired
The Heart of Summer: Checking In With Ourselves
Hey friends,
July is here in full force—long, sunny days, gardens bursting with life, and (let’s be honest) maybe a little bit of burnout creeping in. Whether you’re chasing after kiddos, keeping up with work, or just trying to stay cool, midsummer is the perfect time to pause, check in with yourself, and give your wellness routine a gentle refresh.
Here at Holistic Homesteaders Healing & Wellness, we’re all about honoring the seasons and making space for self-care that feels good—no guilt, no pressure, just simple, nourishing goodness.
1. Hydration: Your Summer Superpower
Let’s start with the basics—hydration! July’s heat can sneak up on you, so keep a big pitcher of herbal iced tea in the fridge. I love mixing hibiscus, lemon balm, and peppermint. It’s refreshing, a little tangy, and gives your mood and digestion a gentle boost. Toss in some orange slices or a handful of berries if you’re feeling fancy.
Quick Recipe: Herbal Summer Cooler
1 tbsp dried hibiscus
1 tbsp dried lemon balm
1 tbsp dried peppermint
1 quart boiling water
Steep, strain, chill, and pour over ice. Add fruit if you like!
2. Eat the Rainbow (and Keep It Simple)
Summer is all about abundance—watermelon, cucumbers, berries, fresh herbs. I try to fill my plate with as many colors as possible. Light, cooling meals like salads, smoothies, or even a chilled soup can help you feel energized without weighing you down. Sprinkle fresh basil or mint on everything for an extra wellness boost!
3. Herbal Helpers for Energy & Calm
If you’re feeling a bit sluggish or frazzled (you’re not alone!), a few herbal allies can make all the difference:
Tulsi (Holy Basil): My go-to for steady energy and stress support. Try it as a tea or iced blend.
Lemon Balm: Calms nerves and uplifts mood—perfect for those “too much on my plate” days.
Peppermint: Invigorates and cools. Sometimes I’ll put a drop of peppermint essential oil in a bowl of cool water and use it as a facial splash—instant refresh!
4. Move With the Sun
Take advantage of these long days with gentle movement. Early morning walks, a little yoga on the porch, or even just gardening (bonus: you get fresh herbs!) can help you feel more grounded and connected. Movement doesn’t have to be a chore—make it something you enjoy.
5. Self-Care, Summer Style
Cool-down baths: Add fresh mint or lavender to your bath for a soothing soak.
Journaling: Take a few minutes to reflect on what’s been working for you this summer—and what you’d like to invite in for the rest of the season.
Digital detox: Give yourself permission to unplug for an afternoon. Notice how you feel when you step away from the screens and soak in the simple joys of summer.
