WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- Read and interpret topographic maps
- Understand contour lines, elevation, and terrain features
- Compass basics and how to use with a map
- Take and follow azimuths (compass bearings)
- Orient a map to terrain
- Real-world bushwhacking and navigation

WHAT TO BRING
- Long pants & long sleeves (protect skin from brush/thorns!)
- Closed-toe hiking boots
- Personal backpack with water (2-3 liters)
- Personal first aid kit
- Paper and pencil
- Hat or sun protection
- Insect repellent (optional)

WHAT WE PROVIDE
- Topographic maps (copies provided)
- Compass (bring yours or use ours)
- Map protractor
- First aid kit on hand
- Expert instruction and real terrain practice

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Active outdoor class involving 2-3 miles over uneven terrain, bushwhacking, and navigation with compass and map. You should be comfortable with physical exertion and outdoor conditions.

First aid kit on hand, group stays together, waivers required, weather-dependent with rain dates available.
